I hired a Handyman on Oct. 12th. He had me sign a contract and pay him 25% down-payment. All I needed done was repair some fencing and install a garbage disposal. He kept showing me everything needing repair at my house and then said he'd take up some carpet on the porch. The fence was not fixed correctly and they took the post I supplied for it. He needed to fix the disposal switch and didn't because he said there was an electrical problem. Installing the disposal wasn't even on the contract which I missed because he had me so flustered with all his talking about all the things he could do to "help me out"He still charged me for taking out the whole carpet even though we changed it to just half. A (warped) wooden horizontal rail was put up and didn't replace the post as stated in the contract. He said he'd fix it and hasn't. At time of payment it was dark and raining so I asked if the post and rail was done. He said yes. I had asked earlier if he takes a credit card and he said yes. I assumed he had a square. He didn't. I said ***** and he said yes then it wouldn't work. He wanted me to go get him cash out of the **** I told him NO. Too much interest on CC. I had no other way to pay him. He wouldn't let me wait until the next day. It ended up a friend loaned me the cash! I was so upset and frustrated I paid him $51 too much. I have asked daily for my money and fence post. He said OK and kept lying about getting it to me. He also would not reduce the total amount for the work that wasn't done. He kept saying that I signed the contract and that's what he's charging. So basically I paid $1,583 for one 2x4 fence rail (which I myself could have nailed up) a single outlet replaced (not the switch) and a 3'x26' strip of carpet taken up.I'm retired on a pension and I need my overpayment even though it's a small amount. So I call it theft by him keeping my post and money. He has no empathy and lies about everything. I have video, pictures and texts as proof.
