Scam presentation at the Northborough Free Library on May 14th, 2025

(getty)
Scams are everywhere these days—online, over the phone, and even in person. With scammers getting more creative and convincing, it’s more important than ever to know how to protect yourself. That’s why the Better Business Bureau of Central New England is putting together a presentation designed to help people recognize the signs of a scam before it’s too late.
In this presentation, we’ll break down the most common types of scams—like phishing emails, fake job offers, investment frauds, and romance scams—and explain how they work. More importantly, you’ll learn simple but effective strategies to stay safe: how to verify a source, when to trust your instincts, and what red flags to watch for.
We’ll also cover the emotional tactics scammers use to manipulate people—like creating urgency, fear, or false hope—and how to respond calmly and confidently when you think you might be targeted.
Whether you’ve dealt with a scam before or just want to be more prepared, this presentation is for you. It’s all about empowering people with the knowledge to protect themselves and their loved ones.
Staying one step ahead of scammers starts with education.
This event is in collaboration with the Consumer Rights Program to help educate and empower the public against scams and fradulant activity. Reserve your spot today and take the first step in protecting yourself and the ones you love.
